How to pay less for fuel
Compare before you drive. The gap between the cheapest and dearest servo in the same suburb is often 20 to 40 cents a litre. On a 60 litre tank that's up to $24 a fill.
Know your city's price cycle. In Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, unleaded prices spike and then fall over a few weeks. Fill up as prices bottom out, and buy only what you need when they've just jumped.
Look past the big brands. Independent servos and supermarket-linked sites are regularly the cheapest in an area. Our lists rank every station by price, whatever the brand.
Use the right fuel. If your car is designed for 91, premium won't make it faster or cleaner. Check your owner's manual before paying for 95 or 98.
Common questions
How do I find the cheapest fuel near me?
Share your location or search your suburb, then pick your fuel type. We list nearby servos from cheapest to dearest and highlight the cheapest one, plus the cheapest station in your whole state.
Where do the fuel prices come from?
Every price comes from an official state government scheme: FuelCheck in NSW, Fuel Price Reporting in Queensland, the Fuel Pricing Information Scheme in South Australia, Fair Fuel Open Data in Victoria and FuelWatch in Western Australia. Stations must report price changes by law.
How often are prices updated?
Live searches fetch fresh prices from the state feeds. Our state, suburb and station pages refresh every hour. In WA, FuelWatch prices are fixed for 24 hours from 6am each day.
What day of the week is fuel cheapest?
In the big east-coast cities, petrol prices move in a cycle that lasts a few weeks: prices jump sharply, then drift down over several days. Fill up near the bottom of the cycle. In WA, check FuelWatch prices the night before, because they are locked in for the next day.
Is E10 cheaper than Unleaded 91?
E10 is usually a few cents a litre cheaper than Unleaded 91, but it contains 10% ethanol and gives slightly lower fuel economy. Check that your car is E10 compatible before you switch.
